Meet the Multitalented Moisturizer
The Everything Salve is a blend of garden-grown botanicals and nourishing plant oils that will leave your skin with a lasting glow throughout the day. It is a daily ritual for both morning and night giving love and tenderness to scars, tattoos, knuckles, lips, face, body, nails, rashes, sunburns, split ends, and an endless list of possibilities. Embrace your imperfections with a sweet little daily massage.
To take it a step further, many Gua Sha enthusiasts love using our Everything Salve to prep the skin prior to getting the blood circulating with a Gua Sha stone. Simply spritz your face with rose water, hydrosol, or toner, apply a pea-sized amount of salve all over your face (a little goes a long way), and glide a rose or jade Gua Sha over your skin to help with lymphatic massage and energetic healing.
The water from your hydrosol and oil from the salve mix and create a silky smooth lotion blend that allows for your skin to absorb it with ease. Rinse and repeat for a nurturing evening routine that will leave you fresh-faced upon awakening from your beauty sleep.
The folk medicine practice of Gua Sha can be traced back to China and across the entire Asian diáspora, since before history was written, to prevent head colds and address aches and pains throughout the body. Gua Sha was and still is done with river rocks, smooth coins, porcelain spoons, and the most popular being a jade stone.
Caring about our skin means caring about our overall health as a holistic practice. After all, our skin is the largest organ of our body that protects our insides from the outside world.
With many helpful tutorials of how to use a Gua Sha, here are a few tips of how to get started with my go-to facial treatment.
Begin with clean skin. Moisten the skin with water or a hydrosol and apply a facial oil such as our Everything Salve to the face, neck, shoulders, and/ or upper chest.
In general, you will want to move your gua sha tool in upward and outward motions starting from the middle of your face, where your nose and mouth separate the left and right side of the face, outwards towards the ear 3-6 times.
Start with the middle of chin, sweeping the gua sha across your right jaw line up towards the right ear, paying attention to any tension in your jaw from clenching. Sweep 3-6 times before switching to the left side of the chin.
Massage the cheeks in two parts, one being below the cheekbone and the second being slightly above the cheekbone. Start from the middle of your upper lip and sweep across the cheek towards the right ear 3-6 times. Then move the gua sha from the nose, above the cheekbone, towards the right ear 3-6 times. Switch to the left side of the face.
Be extra gentle when working under each eye making sure not to pull on the lower lid. You may need to apply more oil if there’s any resistance when gliding. Work up to the temple and with soft circular motions, rotate clockwise for a few rotations before gliding the gua over the ear, down the jaw and neck until the collar bones has been reached stimulating blood flow and lymphatic drainage.
To massage the forehead, start at the third eye, sweep across the eyebrow towards the temple with each stroke moving higher past the temple and towards the hairline.
The gua sha facial treatment can end there or you can repeat all steps in reverse order once more until you end up back at the chin.
As someone with constant blemishes and hormonal acne growing up, I use to think the more you cleansed your face, the less oily it will become. My cabinet was filled with masks, exfoliants, and face washes of all kind. It’s safe to say that I took it too far by striping my skin of it’s natural oils forcing my skin to produce even more oil. The minute I minimized my routine to washing my face once a day in the evening with a gentle face cleanser, and only using water in the morning, everything started to make sense.
TIP: Rinse your face with only water in the morning, before applying Everything Salve, to maintain natural oils from the night before. Wash the day away with a face cleanser at night before applying Everything Salve and going to bed.
For body, it’s best applied right out of the shower when your skin is still a bit damp. Make sure to smooth all over areas that need extra nourishment like shown in the video below.
